What This Role Is About
We are looking for a Software Engineer to build and scale the core systems that power Monnai’s identity and risk intelligence platform. You will work on backend services, data pipelines, decisioning APIs, and platform infrastructure that directly impact the speed, reliability, and accuracy of customer outcomes.
This role is central to building a platform that is secure, observable, resilient, and capable of operating at high scale across multiple markets and customer segments.
You will partner closely with Product, Data Engineering, Applied ML, and Customer teams to ship production-grade systems that are efficient, maintainable, and designed for long-term growth.
What You’ll Do
Backend Systems & APIs
- Build and maintain scalable backend services powering identity, onboarding, and risk decisioning.
- Design and implement stable APIs for customers and internal platform use (REST and/or GraphQL).
- Improve system reliability, latency, throughput, and fault tolerance in production environments.
Data Infrastructure & Platform Engineering
- Build systems that ingest and normalize structured and semi-structured data from multiple sources.
- Develop scalable processing pipelines for signals, outcomes, and downstream analytics.
- Improve architecture for multi-tenant data storage and secure access patterns.
Distributed Systems & Scalability
- Develop systems that operate efficiently under high load, high concurrency, and unpredictable traffic.
- Design for resilience: retries, idempotency, backpressure, circuit breakers, graceful degradation.
- Optimize for performance across storage, compute, and network layers.
Observability & Reliability
- Implement logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting to monitor system health and performance.
- Improve operational response through better tooling, runbooks, and incident prevention.
- Drive reliability improvements through testing, automation, and engineering best practices.
Engineering Excellence
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in strong code review practices.
- Drive technical design discussions and contribute to architecture decisions.
- Document systems and establish patterns that scale across teams.
Who You Are
- 2–6+ years of professional experience building production backend systems.
- Strong programming ability in Python / Java / Go / Node.js.
- Experience building and maintaining APIs and services in real-world environments.
- Strong understanding of data structures, distributed systems concepts, and backend architecture.
- Comfortable working with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis) and designing data models.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and deployment pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving ability with an ownership mindset and high attention to detail.
- Able to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building event-driven systems using Kafka / RabbitMQ / SQS / PubSub.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and service orchestration patterns.
- Experience with streaming pipelines (Spark/Flink) or high-scale ingestion systems.
- Prior experience working on risk, fraud, onboarding, identity, fintech, or compliance-sensitive domains.
- Strong understanding of security best practices (authentication, authorization, secrets management).
